Workshops & Presentations

Two GAP workshops were held in Airdrie and Edmonton, Alberta in late October 2001 to show municipal staff how to collect the data needed to fill in a GAP Flow Chart and answer questions regarding GAP.  These workshops were jointly sponsored by CSR and Alberta Environment, and were organized by the Recycling Council of Alberta.

Presentations on GAP have been made at numerous conferences and meetings across Canada, including Recycling Council of Ontario (Ottawa, 2000); Recycling Council of Alberta (Edmonton, 2001), Federation of Canadian Municipalities (Ottawa, 2002), the Ontario Municipal Benchmarking Initiative (OMBI) in April 2002, and the Municipal Waste Integration Network (MWIN) annual conference in June 2003.

A presentation was made to the Resource Recovery Forum Hampshire and Essex Waste Measurement Workshop in the UK in January 2002 and resulted in a pilot project to test GAP with a number of UK municipalities.

Articles on GAP have been published in Solid Waste and Recycling (Get With the Protocol, December/January, 2002) and Resource Recycling (Minding the GAP – A Canadian Consortium Searches for Common Ground in the Reporting of Municipal Recycling, Composting, Diversion and Disposal, May, 2002).
