A group of waste management professionals and stakeholders from across
Canada met in Banff, Alberta in March, 2004 to discuss issues in waste
measurement. The workshop was jointly sponsored by Natural Resources Canada,
Alberta Environment and Corporations Supporting Recycling. The workshop
had four goals:
-
Describe existing waste data collection systems in Canada;
-
Share lessons learned in the development, implementation and maintenance
of these systems;
-
Establish a principle of assembling accurate and comparable waste
generation, diversion and disposal data and
- Determine whether there is an opportunity for having a standard, national
approach to data collection.
A number of GAP Team members attended the workshop.
