Once
municipalities standardize their residential waste tonnage
information using the GAP
process, the next step is to assess their waste treatment
options from a fully integrated perspective.
To
aid in that process, CSR and the Environment and Plastics
Industry Council (EPIC) worked cooperatively to develop an
Integrated Waste Management (IWM) concept.
The IWM system is a user-friendly computer tool, which
allows municipalities to assess the environmental and financial
impact of current or proposed residential waste management
practices. From
resulting data, municipalities are able to make informed decisions
about changes in residential waste management programs.
