With its roots in Ontario, CSR has its
longest history as a partner and catalyst in the development
of curbside and depot recycling. The evolution of industry’s
involvement in Ontario municipal recycling from the mid-1980s
to today followed a steady path of working closely with
municipalities, the provincial government, environment
groups and other industry organizations to build a recycling
recovery system for members’ consumer goods packaging
that is cost efficient and effective.
Over the years, CSR responded to the
needs of our members by participating in and directing
studies and pilot projects, publishing/co-publishing numerous
reports and serving as secretariat to the interim Waste
Diversion Organization. These activities, archived here,
helped test new solutions and build a solid foundation
for the 190 recycling programs that operate in Ontario
today.
