What is Recycling?
When products are no longer useful in their current forms, we can collect and convert them into other things of use.  This is called recycling.

Why Recycle?
Because recycling is one innovative way to give materials a second life and to utilize the resources again.

Each Ontario municipality with a population greater than 5,000 is required to recycle.

What can be Recycled in our municipal curbside Blue Box/Blue Bag and depot programs?

Packaging like:

  • aluminum containers, cans and trays
  • glass bottles and jars
  • paper bags, cartons and corrugated boxes
  • plastic bottles and jugs
  • steel cans

    Products like:

  • newspapers, magazines, printing and writing paper, telephone directories, hard and soft cover books, greeting cards

    Some communities also collect:

  • drink boxes
  • aerosol cans
  • household special waste like pesticides and herbicides
  • batteries, paints and solvents
  • automobile products and clothing
  • plastic bags, tubs (e.g. yogurt containers), foam egg cartons and meat trays

Your community may not have all these recycling options because it may be too far from markets or your region's unique features may make some recycling environmentally or economically unsound.  Contact your municipal recycling program for more information.
